What Are You Serving? Ego or Love?
It’s easy to forget, but each moment presents us with a choice. Even in the most mundane situations—like waiting on hold for customer service—we can decide: Will I serve the ego, or will I serve something greater?
A dear friend recently shared a story that made this truth so clear.
She was exhausted, dealing with a long wait, and struggling to understand the thick accent of the customer service representative. It would have been so easy to let annoyance take over—to snap, to sink into irritation, to let her ego run the show.
But she didn’t.
Instead, she chose patience. She chose kindness. By the end of the call, not only had she brightened the day of the woman on the other end, but she also uplifted her own spirit. And in sharing the story, she inspired me.
What we choose to serve ultimately serves us back.
When we choose Love—through grace, compassion, or understanding—we create connection and healing. When we choose ego—through anger or judgment—we create separation and suffering.
Here’s how you can pause and make the shift in challenging moments:
➛Pause and Take a Breath
When frustration arises, pause. Feel the inhale and exhale moving through the center of your chest (heart center). This small act creates space for your heart to respond rather than react.
➛Ask Yourself: What Am I Serving Right Now?
Am I feeding my ego—my need to control, be right, or express frustration? Or am I serving my Higher Self, rooted in patience, grace, and compassion?
➛Shift Your Perspective
Imagine how the other person might be feeling. Can you find an opening for compassion or understanding? What energy do you want to bring into this moment?
➛Reflect on the Ripple Effect
Remember, your choice doesn’t just impact you. The energy you choose to embody ripples outward, touching others in ways you may never see.
One small choice can ripple out to make a big difference—for you and the world around you.
