From Striving to Coming Home: My Story

A story of healing, somatic work, hypnotherapy, and coming home to yourself.

💕 My Story | Why I Do the Work That I Do

For years, I carried this quiet belief that I wasn’t enough.

Looking back, I can see how deeply that belief shaped my life. It showed up as perfectionism, overthinking, constantly trying to figure everything out, and believing that if I could just improve myself enough, achieve enough, or finally “get it right,” I’d eventually find peace.

Those patterns followed me into my relationships as well.

I found myself in a marriage where there was a growing imbalance of power and control. Little by little, I began losing my connection to myself. I kept believing that if I communicated better, understood more, tried harder, or became a better partner, things would eventually change.

Instead, I found myself becoming smaller and smaller, slowly losing my own voice while trying to hold everything together.

At the same time, I was navigating infertility, chronic stress, and growing health concerns. From the outside, I looked like I was functioning. Inside, I knew I was exhausted.

I had this growing sense that I couldn’t keep living the way I had been living.

Deep down, I knew that if nothing changed, it wasn’t just my marriage that would suffer. I was slowly losing myself, and I truly believe my body would eventually have reflected that in even deeper ways.

Then something happened that completely changed the course of my life.

I had a profound out-of-body experience.

It wasn’t simply an unusual spiritual event. It completely changed the way I understood myself, consciousness, and what it means to heal. For the first time, I experienced something that felt more real than all the striving I had been doing for years.

It awakened a longing that I still carry today: to understand why we suffer, why we repeat the same patterns even when we know better, and what actually creates lasting transformation instead of temporary relief.

That experience led me down a path I never expected. It eventually brought me to Kundalini Yoga, deep meditation, and the incredible privilege of studying with my spiritual teacher for the past fourteen years.

Those years of practice, self-inquiry, and inner work changed me in ways I never could have imagined.

As I continued doing my own healing, I began to recognize the survival patterns that had quietly been running my life. I realized how much of my identity had been built around striving, proving myself, staying in control, and trying to earn a sense of worth that had never actually been missing.

💛 One of the biggest shifts came when I stopped believing that there was something fundamentally wrong with me.

I think so many of us grow up carrying that belief in one form or another. Sometimes it comes from our families. Sometimes it comes from painful relationships. Sometimes it comes from cultural messages, religious teachings, or experiences that convince us we have to earn love, acceptance, safety, or worth.

We begin organizing our lives around proving ourselves.

We strive.
We overachieve.
We people-please.
We stay in relationships that no longer honor who we are.
We become incredibly good at surviving while quietly believing that peace is something we’ll eventually earn if we just try hard enough.

I no longer believe that’s true.

I don’t believe we’re fundamentally broken.

I believe that beneath all of the conditioning, protective strategies, and survival patterns we’ve developed over a lifetime, there is something inherently whole within each of us. Whether you call it your true self, your soul, your essence, or simply your authentic nature, I believe that at our core we are loving, worthy, and whole.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone different.

It’s about gently uncovering what has always been there beneath the layers of fear, conditioning, and protection.

That belief changed not only how I see myself, but how I see every person who walks through my door.

🧠 It’s also why I don’t believe that insight alone is enough.

Understanding your story is valuable, but simply talking about what happened, analyzing it, or revisiting the same story over and over again doesn’t necessarily create healing.

Real transformation happens when we move beneath the thinking mind and allow the subconscious, the nervous system, and the body to finally process experiences that have remained unresolved for years.

That’s where I believe lasting healing begins.

Today, I have the privilege of walking alongside people who are often much like I was.

Many are intelligent, thoughtful, and deeply self-aware. They’ve read the books, gone to therapy, listened to the podcasts, and worked incredibly hard to improve themselves. Yet they still find themselves caught in familiar patterns of perfectionism, overthinking, difficult relationships, chronic stress, or feeling disconnected from who they really are.

This is the heart of the somatic work and hypnotherapy sessions I offer through Embodied Synergy Holistic Healing in the Pittsburgh area.

I understand that journey because I’ve lived it.

My hope isn’t to “fix” anyone.

My hope is to create a safe, compassionate space where people can reconnect with the wholeness that has always existed beneath the survival patterns.

Because I believe healing isn’t about becoming someone new...

It’s about coming home to the person you’ve been all along. 🙏💜

Frequently Asked Questions

What is somatic work?

Somatic work is a mind–body approach to healing that pays careful attention to how your body and nervous system hold experiences over time. It gently invites you to notice sensations, patterns, and responses, so your body can begin to release what’s been stuck and remember what safety and self-connection feel like.

If you’d like to explore somatic work more deeply, you can learn more on my Services page.

How does hypnotherapy fit into this work?

In my practice, hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxed, focused state that helps you access the subconscious patterns beneath everyday thoughts. I blend hypnotherapy with somatic awareness so we’re not just talking about your story, but allowing your mind and body together to participate in the healing and integration process.
